Mark Smith

Mark started his career in the Financial Services sector in 1986 at Reliance Mutual Insurance Society. He worked in the mortgage services department for 4 years where he dealt with client's top-up mortgage applications and clients who had fallen behind with mortgage payments.

Keen to develop this start in the world of financial services, Mark left Reliance Mutual in 1990 to join a local firm of solicitors in Tunbridge Wells, Cripps Harries Hall, who had developed an in-house financial services department. Mark started in the Pensions, Life and Mortgage department where he progressed to Mortgage and Life Assurance Manager. At Cripps Harries Hall, Mark also took a keen interest in compliance matters and in 1994 transferred internally to assist the Compliance Officer with the ever expanding and demanding compliance function.

In 1996 Mark left Cripps Harries Hall and joined, for a brief period, the corporate division of Lloyds Private Banking, where he worked as a corporate report writer. However, shortly after joining, the corporate division was relocated and the entire corporate team was made redundant.

Using the knowledge he had gained whilst working in compliance at Cripps Harries Hall, Mark then joined Brachers Solicitors in Maidstone to work in their investment services department and afford them in-house compliance support. Mark developed this function and was one of the original team that assisted Brachers to de-merge this department in May 2000 into the Ashcourt Group. Today, Mark is the Group Compliance Officer for the Ashcourt Group of companies.
